Is Dorothy a leader? Kind of a strange question when you talk about leadership. When I asked all of you to think about what leadership looked like I bet none of you listed or put down Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Believe it or not Dorothy was a GREAT LEADER!
So what makes Dorothy a great leader? To understand this we need to look at what Dorothy was able to accomplish...
What Dorothy's story teaches us is that a good leader needs to have "Brains", "Heart", "Courage" and a mission and a vision! These qualities will inspire, not demand, people to follow!
So lets not forget how we got here! It all started by looking at who we see as leaders and what type of leadership qualities they possess. Leaders can lead through punishment and reward but neither way works long-term. Leaders don't just motivate people but they inspire! Leaders have a passion for their mission and care for the people around them but most importantly, leaders have the Brains, heart, and courage to lead!
I hope as we learn more about leadership that we get closer to our team mission and we all become more like Dorothy...“Working together, learning together, growing together. In All Things, Team First!”.
